Modern dünya bilimin değeri üzerinde çok fazla vurgu yaptı. Bu şekilde bilimsel tecrübenin değeri artarken, dinî tecrübenin değeri ise azaldı. 20. yüzyılınönemli Müslüman düşünürlerinden olan Muhammed İkbal, bu sorunu çözme temelinde bir din felsefesi inşa etti. O, felsefesinde dinî tecrübeyi anlamlı bir konuma yerleştirdi ve onun hak ettiği değeri sağladı. Ona göre dinî tecrübe, “Tanrı’nın doğrudan deneyimi”dir.
