Abstract:

The research on social policies is of great importance in providing equal access to the social policies of all segments of society, finding its reflection in the social rights, raising healthy generations. Social policy that conceptualized in 19th Century, institutionalized in 20th and living its golden era in the practices of welfare state, has entered in a transformation period by implementation of neoliberal policies, privatization and marketization, which all served as a formula for overcoming the crisis after 1980’s. On the other hand, the importance of social policy and social work for the elderly in the society has been greater ever more upon the rise of “aging population” which is one of the most important social developments emerging in the last 30 years all over the World and growing share of the elderly population. After the practices of welfare state, UK which is one of the states applying the neoliberal policies most extensively, experienced a transformation in elderly care services in consequences of privatization and marketization. Currently, there is ongoing debate on the social political practices in the UK where the effective implementation of elderly care services gains greater momentum each day as a result of the rapid population aging. In this context, with this study it is aimed to bring light to the transformation of social policy field through the changing sector of the care homes which occured after 1980’s in Britain.
