Abstract:

Geometric habits of mind is the center of the geometric problem-solving process. Individuals with geometric habits of mind have four basic habits. These habits are reasoning with relationships, generalizing geometric ideas, investigating invariants and balancing exploration and reflection. It is possible talk about affective factors of geometric habits of mind as well as cognitive factors. Affective factors can be express the feelings and opinion of individuals about the problem of geometry. One of these factors is the attitude towards geometry. In this context, in the research, the relationship between 10th Science High School Students’ Geometric Habits of Mind and Attitudes towards Geometry is investigated. The data collection tools are Geometric Habits of Mind Test developed by the researcher and Geometry Attitude Scale developed by Bindak (2004). Correlation analysis was performed to determine the relationship between students' habits of mind and attitudes towards geometry and simple regression analysis was performed to reveal the predictive power of the attitude on geometric habits of mind. The results shows that the attitude towards geometry was a significant predictor of geometric habits of mind (R = 0.883, R2 = 0.78, F(1, 122) = 431.291, p < .00).
