The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of dramatization as a teaching strategy of integer numbers on the achievement and retention levels of 7th grade primary school students. For this purpose, four 7th grade classes were chosen from a primary school in the European side of Istanbul. The total number of students in the sample was 149. At the beginning of the study, all of the groups were given a pre-test containing 15 question. The same test was used again as a post-test and also for assessing the level of retention. The dramatization technique taking the process of teaching integer numbers in the 7th grade primary school curriculum into consideration was used in the experimental group. The integer numbers were taught directly in the control group. The results of the t-test statistics comparing the pre-test, the post-test and the retention test for the experimental and the control groups showed that the lessons using dramatization techniques resulted in greater achievement in teaching integer numbers and higher retention levels. After the application is finished, by considering the examining of work sheet which hanged out to the students and evaluating the cases of the students during the application, the applicability of activity is examined. At the end of the study, the result is that activity which is used in this study is convenient and usable for 7th grade primary school students. Finally, the students were asked to design an event on the subject. Prepared by students in the classroom activities was presented
