Mathematical concepts must be teached in a sequent order because mathematical concepts are related to each others. Unless students does not comprehend any one of these concepts or unless mastery learning occurs then some diffuculties may arise in learning of higher-level mathematics concepts. In these study it has been tried to determine senior student teachers? understanding level of some mathematical concepts. The sample of the study was fourth grade students of Gazi University Education Faculty Elementary School Mathematics Department in 2002-2003 cirruculum year. Data was gathered by means of a test consisting of fifteen open-ended questions. Paired samples t-test was used to determine whether there existed a significant differance between the scores of the test which had been used pretest and posttest. As a result of the study, it has been found that students? understanding level is very low and that they could not see the differences between the concepts, particularly according to pretest results. However, the posttest results show that the level increases and therefore there has been found a significant differance between pretest and posttest scores in favour of posttest scores
