Fen Lisesi Öğrencilerinin Büyüklük ve Ölçek Kavramları ile İlgili Öğrenme İlerlemesinin Analizi

Abstract:

“Büyüklük ve ölçek” konusu nanobilim eğitimi için gerekli öngörülen en önemli dokuz konudan birincisidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Fen Lisesi 9., 10. ve 11. sınıf öğrencilerinin büyüklük ve ölçek kavramları ile ilgili öğrenme ilerlemelerini incelemektir. Çalışmanın örneklemi, 2017-2018 eğitim-öğretim yılı içinde devlete ait bir Fen Lisesinin 9., 10. ve 11.sınıflarında öğrenim gören 70 öğrenciyi kapsamaktadır. Veri toplama araçları olarak kelime ilişkilendirme testi (KİT) ve Büyüklük ve Ölçek Kavramları Bilgi Testi kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin fen (kimya, fizik, biyoloji) derslerinde edindikleri bilgileri büyüklük ve ölçek kavramlarıyla ilişkilendirebilme seviyeleri sınıf düzeylerine göre analiz edilmiştir. Sonuçlar, 11.sınıf öğrencilerinin büyüklük ve ölçek kavramları ile ilgili bilgi seviyelerinin diğer sınıf düzeylerine göre daha yüksek olduğunu göstermektedir. Fen Lisesi öğrencilerinin büyüklük ve ölçek kavramları hakkında bilgi seviyelerinin, fen ve matematik ağırlıklı dersler görmelerine rağmen, sonuç olarak düşük olduğu belirlenmiştir. Nanobilim ve nanoteknolojinin ilk önemli başlığı olan büyüklük ve ölçek konusunun fen konuları içerisinde yer almasının öğrencilerin fizik, biyoloji ve kimya konularını daha iyi kavramalarına yardımcı olacağı düşünülmektedir.

The issue of "size and scale" is considered as the first among the nine most important topics for nanoscience education. The aim of this study is to examine the learning progression of Science High School 9th, 10th and 11th grade students' conceptual understanding of size and scale concepts. The total of 70 students at 9th, 10th and 11th grade levels in a public Science High School consisted of the sample of the study. As data gathering tools a word association test and a Size and Scale Concepts Test were used. The data obtained from the tests were used to determine the level of associating knowledge acquired from the science courses (chemistry, physics and biology) with the size and scale concepts. The results showed that 11th grade students are more aware of and accomplished better than the others on the size and scale concepts. Although the Science High School students get intensive science and mathematics training the level of achievement on the concepts of size and scale was found to be low. It is thought that by including the issue of "size and scale" within the titles of the science courses such as chemistry, physics and biology will help to better understand not only the science subjects but also the size and scale concepts.
