Abstract:

A Study to ascertain groups and categories of mosques, and number of imamsand muezzins are needed in mosques in TurkeyThis research is carried out to explore groups and categories of mosques, and numberof imams and muezzins are needed for these mosques in Turkey. To do this, firstlymosques are classified into four groups and a score is given to each mosque accordingto its importance and characteristics. Secondly, mosques are categorized within theirgroups depending on their five characteristics including their scores. Finally, quantity ofimams and muezzins are needed for these mosques are gauged. Data from “MosqueData Bank at the Presidency of Religious Affairs” are mainly used in this study. Reliabilityand validity of results from data analyses are controlledin a field-work carried outin ten cities including Samsun, Trabzon, Erzurum, Bingöl, Kahramanmaraş, Nevşehir,Bolu, Edirne, Çanakkale and Denizli. Results are revealed that in a full-time status70,530 imams and 11,725 muezzins are needed in 76,922 mosques throughout Turkey.
