Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to determine the level of science process skills among techers who are working in İzmir province primary schools and to study this level according to gender, department and work experience. This study was made among 428 teachers working in İzmir province chief towns (Bornova, Çiğli, Bayraklı, Buca, Gaziemir, Konak, Karşıyaka, Narlıdere, Seferihisar, Güzelbahçe ). Composed of 36 multiple choice questions, Test of Integrated Process Skills II (TIPS II) which was developed by Burns, Okey and Wise (1985) and adapted by Bahar and Ateş, was used as a data gathering tool. The study for the test’s compability to class teachers was done and the study’s Alpha result was found 0,80 The results are: It can be said that the 428 class teachers composing the study group’s science process level is medium. Compared to male teachers, the female teachers’s science process levels are higher. Science process levels of newly started teachers is higher than 20 years and more experienced teachers.
