Akıl nakil ilişkisi öteden beri filozof, kelamcı ve usulcülerin gündemini meşgul etmiş bir konudur. Bir hüküm kaynağı olarak, nasların anlaşılmasında ve naslar arası teâruzda aklın yeri, usulcülerin işlediği ve tartıştığı konulardandır. Bunun yanında bu ilişki reyhadis ve kıyas-nas geriliminde de kendisini göstermiştir. Her ekol kendi anlayışına göre akla yüklediği işlevler çerçevesinde akıl ile nakil arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemiştir. Mantık ilmini bütün ilimler için ölçüt olarak kabul eden ve kelamcıların istidlallerini yetersiz bularak onların yöntemlerini eleştiren ve Aristo mantığından istifade etmeyi gerekli gören Gazzâlî de mezkûr mesele üzerinde önemle duran usulcülerdendir. Gazzâlî’nin, kelâm ve usul ilimlerini de mantık ilmi çerçevesinde ele alması onun akıl ile nakil arasındaki ilişkiye dair anlayışını önemli kılmaktadır. Diğer taraftan felsefeyi donuklaştırdığı, aklı işlevsiz kıldığı iddia edilen Gazzâlî’nin bu konudaki anlayışı bu çalışmayı daha değerli hale getirmektedir. Çalışmada iddia edildiği gibi Gazzâlî’nin aklı işlevsiz kılmadığı; selefleri Şâfiî ve Eş‘arîler gibi akıl-nakil arasında bir denge kurmak istediği sonucuna varılmıştır. Bu çalışma Gazzâlî’nin akıl nakil ilişkisi hakkındaki anlayışına ve onun bu konudaki anlayışını besleyen kanallara dairdir.
