Abstract:

Information communication technologies, which have evolved and accelerated along with the industrial revolution, have lived the golden age in the last fifty years. Recently, in particular, the invention of computers, the internet and the smart devices has been revolutionary in many areas until the extinction of national borders, primarily communication. These developments in technology have produced positive effects in many areas, primarily in industrial production, from agriculture to trade, from education to travel and entertainment to defense. Although many of the EU member countries are quite advanced in digitalization, Turkey has failed to make enough progress in this regard. The economic activity that develops parallel to the rate of use of information communication in the European Union is below the average for Turkey in many areas. This study discussed the developments in the information communications technologies in the European Union, the Eurozone and Turkey. The impact of information communication technologies on the digitalization of the economy has been studied. Despite the positive developments that have occurred in recent years, the conclusion has been that there has not been a large scope of influence in the direction of the digitalization of the economy in Turkey.
