In this research, differences of physicians’ motivation perceptions according to socio-demographic characteristics in terms of performance-based payment system are investigated among physicians who work in second-line healthcare institutions in Kırklareli. The universe of the research is consists of 164 physicians work in 5 public hospitals in Kırklareli city. However, all of the physicians were not reached and only 119 questionnaires were included in the analysis. Results show that the perceptions of physicians regarding motivation under the performance-based payment system are not significantly different for the variables: gender, marital status, experience in working private sector, having a spouse/partner with a job, being married to a physician and the fixed salary earned by physicians. On the other hand, when we consider the motivations of the physician with respect to the economic, social-psychology and organizational and management instruments, we observe that the effect of performance system is significantly different for age and specialty variables. Moreover, the variable, the monthly promotions earned by physicians, has a significant effect on the motivations of the physicians with respect to the economic factor, but do not have a significant effect with respect to the social-psychology and organizational and management instruments.
