Abstract:

This study is aimed at determining the expectations of parents with special needs in the Gazimağusa region from the school guidance service. The study used semi-configured interview questions prepared to determine the expectations of parents from the guidance service. In the study, 7 of the parents of 68 students registered in the Gazimağusa Special Education Center, 7 women, 5 men and 12 parents were interviewed. The data obtained in the study was evaluated using the visual analysis method. The study results in examining the expectations of parents from the school guidance service; regular conversations with the school guidance service, support to address concerns, participation in social events, the conduct of the activities that will take place with the participation of the children and families of the school staff, the activities to inform all members of the family, the environment in which knowledge and experience sharing can be done, the communication and cooperation between the institutional employees and guardians, the level of economic situation, the establishment of connections with the family-friendly persons and aid organizations, the family education, the child's needs are determined by regularly and systematically. When the expectations of parents to their children are examined, the need for the determination of teachers, classmates and classmates is to take their children and their own opinions, to stay longer in school during the day and to shorten the holidays, to emphasize the children’s confidence and fears, to take children from the school environment to different environments and to gain related behaviors. The expectations of the parents to the environment are determined in the form of information made by specialists using meetings, seminars and public communication tools for increased environmental awareness about specialized persons.
