Çağımızda çevre sorunları, insanlığın üstesinden gelmekte zorlandığı bir “sorunsal” haline gelmiştir. Esasta Batı’daki toplumsal dönüşümün ifadesi olan “modernite”nin bir sonucu olarak belirtilebilecek olan bugünkü çevre sorunlarının temelinde, modern süreçleri başlatan “Klasik Fizik” (Newton Fiziği)’in bulunduğu görüşü bu çalışmanın temel iddiasıdır. Klasik Fizik (Newton Fiziği), o güne kadar geçerli olan Fizik biliminin temel yaklaşımlarını değiştirmiş; yeni bir “bilim anlayışı” ortaya koymuştur. Klasik fizikle başlayan yeni bilimsel anlayış ve yöntemin, bireylerin zihinlerinde, doğanın ve evrenin yeni bir biçimde tanımlanmasına yol açtığı söylenebilir. Bu yeni anlayışın sonucu olarak, “modern” bireyinin, doğayı koruma ve onunla barışık olma yerine, onu egemenliği altına almaya, denetlemeye ve dönüştürmeye çalıştığı; bu anlayışın da doğanın sömürülme ve tüketilmesine yol açtığı ve bugünkü çevre sorunlarının temelinde bu yaklaşımın bulunduğu ileri sürülmektedir. Bu çalışmada ayrıca, “Yeni Fizik”in (Quantum) getirdiği yöntemin, insanlığın karşı karşıya olduğu bunalımı çözmede önemli rol oynayabileceği görüşü de ifade edilmektedir. Quantum Fiziği ile “ak” ile “kara” zihinsel kalıplaşması ve zihinsel sıkışması içinde bulunan insan zihninin, açılım sağlayabileceği; çevreyle-doğayla ilişkisini çeşitlendirerek değiştirebileceği düşünülmektedir.
