Abstract:

Ouml;zet Şehirler ccedil;eşitli bilim dallarının ilgi alanı iccedil;ine girer. Bu nedenledir ki birccedil;ok duuml;şuuml;nuuml;r ve bilim adamı şehirler uuml;zerinde geccedil;mişten guuml;nuuml;muuml;ze fikir uuml;retmişlerdir. Orta Ccedil;ağrsquo;da ve şehirlerin ilk ortaya ccedil;ıktığı yerlerde yaşamış olan İbn Haldun da şehirle ilgili olarak ouml;nemli gouml;zlem ve değerlendirmeler yapmıştır. Bu gouml;zlem ve değerlendirmelerde metodik olarak coğrafyacılara benzer bir bakış accedil;ısı sergilemiştir. Bilimlerin ccedil;alışma alanları accedil;ısından geccedil;mişte yapılanlar, buguuml;n ulaşılan aşama noktasında ccedil;ok ouml;nemlidir. İbn Haldunrsquo;un bakış accedil;ısı ve değerlendirmeleri de şehir coğrafyası accedil;ısından guuml;nuuml;muuml;zde temel olacak bazı bulguları bize sunmaktadır. Bu ccedil;alışmada ouml;ncelikli olarak İbn Haldunrsquo;un şehir anlayışı, kır ve şehir yerleşmelerinin ayrımında kullandığı kriterler, ortaccedil;ağ İslam aleminde kırsal ve şehirsel yerleşmelerin genel ouml;zellikleri uuml;zerinde durulmuş ve Ibn Haldunrsquo;un yaşadığı douml;nemdeki şehir anlayışı ile guuml;nuuml;muuml;z şehir anlayışı karşılaştırılmaya ccedil;alışılmıştır. nbsp; Anahtar Kelimeler: Şehir, Ortaccedil;ağ, İbn Haldun, nbsp; Abstract Many of the disciplines analyze cities in different ways. Some thinkers and scientist, too, have produced views about the cities from past to present. İbn Haldun, living the places where cities were first middle age, has made some important observations and evaluations about cities. The method he used for his observations and evaluations were similar to that employed by geographers. The things which have been done in the past are important in terms of todayrsquo;s achieved level in the fields of all scientific disciplines. In this context Ibn Haldunrsquo;s point of views and evaluations provide some basic findings in terms of the urban geography. This study is intended to dwell on Ibn Khaldunrsquo;s view of city, criteria that he uses to distinguish city from rural settlements, and the general aspects of rural and urban settlements in Islamic world in the Middle ages, and to compare the understanding of city in Ibn Khaldunrsquo;s time and at present.
