Ouml;ZET Bu yazıda, uuml;nluuml; Ingiliz şarkiyatccedil;ı Edward Granvillc BROWNE' ın, başta Tuuml;rkccedil;e, Farsccedil;a ve Arapccedil;a olmak uuml;zere, Doğu Dillerine ilgisi uuml;zerinde durulacaktır. Onun, bUuml;lUuml;n ouml;mruuml;nuuml; uğruna harcadığı Doğu edebiyatı, tarih, din ve kuuml;ltuuml;rlerine merakı, 1877 Osmanlı-Rus savaşı sırasında Osmanlıya ve Osmanlıca'ya sempati duymakla başlar. Bu nedenle ilkin Osmanlıea Tuuml;rkccedil;e'si, ardından Farsccedil;a ve Arapccedil;a'yı ouml;ğrenir. Araştırmalarda bulunmak ve edebiyat ccedil;evreleriyle gouml;ruuml;şmek uuml;zere defalarca istanbul'a, Tuuml;rkiye'ye gelir. E. J. Wilkinson Giblı'in erken gerccedil;ekleşen vefatı uuml;zerine yarım kalmış olan Osmanlı Şiir Tarihi'ni (A f-lisıory of Ollllnlan Pıı('ıry) , o tamamladı. 0, buuml;tuuml;n ouml;mruuml;nuuml; asıl mesleği tıp yerine, Doğu Dilleri, edebiyatıarı, elin, kuuml;ltuuml;r ve tarihlerini araştırmaya harcayan bir şarkiyatccedil;ıdır. SUMMARY In this article, it will be investigatcd that the relation of tiımous English scientist E. G. Browne to show intcrest the East languages and his studies abaout this area. But at the age of only fifteen, in 1877, his interset in the Middle East had been aroused by the Russo-Turkish War, in which eharacteristieally his sympathy lay with the side that was unpopular in Britain, the Turkish. At this point his "Oriental" studies began, with Turksh, to which Pcrsian and Arabic. To study on Turksh liıeraıure and lO see Turkish scientists, he eome a fcw time to İstanhul (Constantinople) and Anatolia. After the early death of the Turcologist E. J. W. Gibb in 1901, J3rowne took responsihility for putting a large part of Hihh's History of Oltoman Poetry into fina! from and seeing it through the press. He is one orientalist, which spend his all life to ivestigating of East languages and they literatllres and cultures instead ofhis profession the medicine.
