Abstract:

The views that put the roles and responsibilities of men on the forefront to prevent violence against women and girls have become more and more important, and that they think that a part of the solution is men in finding the end of this violence. When we question how men can participate in the prevention of violence, we see that the answer to the question of how they perceive violence is missing. The psychosocial approach adopted in the field of criminology, as well as a thorough and comprehensive analysis, can enable the development of satisfactory answers to this question. In both social gender studies and in the field of criminology, masculinity and violence have been linked and discussed with each other. Using the various approaches developed in this debate, the possibilities offered by the psychosocial approach in terms of understanding and prevention of male violence will be assessed. Finally, by assessing the issue of social justice that young men might strongly relate in this approach, the possibility of a radical social/cultural change in favour of social gender equality will be questioned, along with the different dimensions of the meaning that gender-based violence can gain.
