Abstract:

This study examines the effects of the modernization process that caused social and cultural changes on interior spaces and the reflections of the resulting changes on the domestic spaces depicted in the poems by analyzing domestic spaces through poetic expression, which is a literary genre. Poems of Behçet Necatigil, who is one of the rare poets of the modern poetry understanding that cannot be included in any movement or poetry society, and İlhan Berk, who is known as the leading name and the strongest defender of the Second New poetry movement, have significantly similar attitudes towards domestic spaces, although they have different understanding of poetry. Accordingly, the works of these two poets dealing with domestic spaces provide references as important literary sources for this study. When the depictions of domestic spaces are examined in their works, the houses are considered as spaces of unrest or happiness with their positive and negative aspects. These contradictory situations that the house aroused on the poets also revealed situations such as house-street conflict, longing for living spaces before the modernization period. In this context, the poems were classified and analyzed under the titles of “Positive Approaches to the Concept of Home”, “Negative Approaches to the Concept of Home” and “Approaches to the Elements That Make Up Home”. As a result of the study; when poems examined in the context of the relationship between literature and architecture, it is revealed that the spaces depicted in poems can be seen as a literary source in issues such as the relationships between individual and space, and the effects of changes in society on the individual. As a depiction of a certain period in the poems, domestic spaces have been considered as useful resources to examine the effects of modernism and changes on users.
