Abstract:

During the historical process, the cities have been undergoing constant change and transformation. From prehistoric times to today, people’s lifestyle, production and consumption relations have influenced the change of cities. In the 18th century, after the industrial revolution, the cities became commercial centers. With the development of information and communication technologies, the forms of production and consumption in the world and the international capital flow have changed. As a result, the cities gained greater importance. The changes that have occurred in various areas, along with globalization, have also affected the tourism sector. In addition to the classical tourism concept of the sea-kum-sun theme; interest has increased in alternative forms of tourism such as urban tourism, cultural tourism, rural tourism, eco tourism, mountain tourism, gastronomic tourism. City tourism is a very important opportunity to improve the economy of Van. This study aims to reveal the possibilities of urban tourism of Van in the process of globalization and to emphasize that the natural and historical values it has to be preserved. To do this, first and foremost the changing role of cities in the context of globalization has been assessed by the city and tourism relationship. Finally, the urban development of Van has been prompted and the city tourism possibilities have been identified. In the framework of the research, the process of historical development of Van to date is important and necessary for the identification of local-specific values.
