İkinci Dünya Savaşı sonrasında SSCB tehdidine maruz kalan Türkiye, Batı ittifakına yönelmiştir. Türkiye, 1947 yılında ilan edilen Truman Doktrini ile ABD’den yardım almaya başlamıştır. Türkiye’nin Ortadoğu politikası da Batı ittifakına yaklaşması ile birlikte bu ittifakın gereklilikleri doğrultusunda şekillenmiştir. Soğuk Savaş sürecinde tehdidi kuzey komşusu SSCB’den hisseden Türkiye, Ortadoğu’daki Arap Devletleri’nin Batı ittifakını bir tehdit olarak gördüğünü algılayamamış, buda Türkiye’nin Ortadoğu’da etkili bir politika yürütmesine engel teşkil etmiştir. Bu çalışma, İkinci Dünya Savaşı bitiminden ABD öncülüğünde kurulan Bağdat Paktı’na kadar geçen süreçte Türkiye’nin Ortadoğu politikasının hangi temel saiklerle şekillendirildiğini ve ortaya çıkan gelişmelerde alınan tutumu açıklamayı amaçlamaktadır.

Abstract:

After the Second World War, Turkey was threatened by the Soviet Union and turned to the Western Alliance. Turkey began to seek assistance from the United States by the Truman Doctrine, which was proclaimed in 1947. The Middle East policy of Turkey has also been shaped in accordance with the needs of this alliance along with the approach to the Western alliance. Turkey, who felt the threat during the Cold War from the northern neighbor SSCB, has not understood that the Arab states in the Middle East see the Western alliance as a threat, which has prevented Turkey from conducting an effective policy in the Middle East. This study aims to explain in the process from the end of World War II to the Baghdad Pact under the U.S. leadership which the main aspects of Turkey’s Middle East policy are shaped and the attitude taken in the emerging developments.

Exposed to the threat of the Soviet Union after the Second World War, Turkey has addressed the Western alliance. Turkey began to receive aid from the United States with the Truman Doctrine that was announced in 1947. Turkey, who got closer to the Western alliance, shaped its Middle East Policy according to this alliance. In the process of Cold War Turkey felt the threat from the northern neighbor USSR and did not understand that the Arab states felt the threat from the West and this factor inhibit Turkey from following an efficient policy in the Middle East. This study aims to explain Turkey’s Middle East policy from the end of the Second World War to the Baghdad Pact, which was established under the leadership of The United States.
