Abstract:

Orta çağda İspanya; coğrafi ve kültürel konumu bakımından Avrupa, Kuzey Afrika ve Orta Doğu ile doğrudan ilişki içinde bulunması, Müslümanlığın siyasi ve kültürel gücü açısından ulaşılamayacak bir yere sahip olması, Batı Aydınlanmasının kaynağı ve aracısı olması, Avrupa’da Müslümanlığı temsil etmesi, içerisinde yedi civarında ırk ve üç semavi din temsilcisinin bulunduğu bir hoşgörü uygarlığına sahip olması nedenleriyle büyük önem arz etmektedir. Dolayısıyla o dönemde Batı’da görülebilecek her önemli yeniliğin kaynağı İspanya’ya dayanmaktadır. Orta çağ İspanya’sı, Batı’yı Yunan felsefe ve bilim geleneği ile ilk defa tanıştırmış, bu çevirmenler ve yaptıkları çeviriler Avrupalıların fikirlerini bütünüyle değiştirmiştir. Bağdat’ta kurulan Beyt’ül Hikme’den Endülüs’e aktarılan bilgiler, Toledo’da kurulan Çeviri Okulunun temellerini oluşturmuştur. XII. yüzyılda Avrupa’da gerçekleşen çeviri faaliyetleri arasında en etkin rolü olan Toledo Çeviri Okulu, çevrilen eserlerin sayısı, orada çalışan çevirmenler ve etkileri açısından İspanya çeviri hareketinin merkezi olmuştur. Müslüman yazarların Batılı ilahiyatçılar üzerinde yaptığı felsefî etkinin oluşturduğu değişim, büyük ölçüde bu çevirmen grubunun çalışmaları sonucunda oluşmuş ve bu çeviriler Orta çağ Avrupası’nın İslam’la ilgili bilgilerinin temelini oluşturmuştur. Ayrıca Toledo’da açılan çeviri okulunun ve burada yapılan çeviri faaliyetlerinin uygarlık tarihi ve insanlığın kültür mirasına katkıları son derece büyüktür. Bu çalışmanın amacı orta çağ İspanya’sında gerçekleşen çeviri faaliyetleri ve çevrilen eserler hakkında bilgi vermek, çeviri faaliyetlerinin günümüze kadar geliş aşamasını tekrardan hatırlatmaktır.

In the Middle Ages, Spain is of great importance because of its geographical and cultural location, its direct relationship with Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, its political and cultural power, its source and medium of Western Enlightenment, its representation of Islam in Europe, its possession of a tolerant civilization with about seven races and three representatives of the Semavi religions. Therefore, the source of every important innovation that can be seen in the West during that period is based on Spain. The medieval Spain introduced the West for the first time with Greek philosophy and scientific tradition, these translators and their translations completely changed the ideas of the Europeans. The information transmitted from Beytul Hikme founded in Baghdad to Endulus formed the foundation of the Translation School founded in Toledo. by XII. The Toledo Translation School, which has been the most effective role among the translation activities in Europe in the century, has been the center of the Spanish translation movement in terms of the number of translated works, the translators working there and their effects. The change created by the philosophical impact of Muslim writers on Western theologians was largely the result of the work of this group of translators, and these translations formed the basis of the knowledge of the Middle Ages Europe about Islam. The contribution of the translation school opened in Toledo and the translation activities here to the history of civilization and the cultural heritage of mankind is extremely large. The aim of this study is to provide information about the translation activities that take place in the Middle Ages Spain and the translated works, and to remind the stage of translation activities to the present day.

Therefore, the source of every important innovation that can be seen in the West at that time is based on Spain. Medieval Spain introduced the West to the Greek philosophy and scientific tradition for the first time, these translators and their translations completely changed the ideas of Europeans. The information transferred from Beyt’ul-Hikme, established in Baghdad, to Andalusia formed the foundations of the Translation School established in Toledo. Toledo Translation School, which played the most active role in translation activities in Europe in the 12th century, became the center of the Spanish translation movement in terms of the number of translated works, the translators working there and their influence. The change created by the philosophical influence of Muslim writers on Western theologians has largely occurred as a result of the work of this translator group and these translations formed the basis of medieval Europe's knowledge of Islam. In addition, the translation school opened in Toledo and the translation activities carried out here contribute to the history of civilization and the cultural heritage of humanity. The purpose of this study is to give information about the translation activities and translated works in medieval Spain, to remind the development of translation activities until today.
