Abstract:

Turkey is a country rich in cultural heritage. Turkey's 18 UNESCO World Heritage List, there are 83 units in the temporary heritage list. Having these universal values is also undertaking the responsibility of protection for everyone. Our cultural heritage needs to be protected and promoted on a universal scale. Heritage awareness should be created by everyone, starting with users, visitors, and local governments, right up to the top. This is possible with heritage management planning. This study, it is aimed to evaluate the awareness of UNESCO and cultural heritage of the municipalities responsible for the management of heritages included in the UNESCO World Heritage Temporary List through the strategic plan. 77 heritages included in the temporary list are within the boundaries of 104 municipalities in total. The strategic plans of 42 municipalities with this heritage could not be reached and 8 strategic plans from previous periods were excluded and 54 plans for the period 2020-2024 were examined within the scope of the study. The strategic plans selected with the purposeful sampling method were analyzed using the content analysis method. Under the fourtitles determined, heritage names were analyzed with the keywords "culture", "history", "UNESCO", "tourism" and "protection". It was determined that the awareness of these heritages in the strategic plans of the analyzed municipalities was not sufficient and did not take the necessary place among the future strategies.
