Abstract:

This study was conducted to develop a Perspective Taking Test for Children PTC in order to evaluate the perspective taking skills of preschoolers. The study was implemented with totally 236 children from the three, four and five age group. Firstly, the items and it’s drawings that could potentially be used in the Perspective Taking Test for Children PTC were prepared. Then, the preschool education and child development experts were asked to assess the appropriateness of drawings and the instructions in the test. To criterion-related validity, “Empathy Scale for Children ESC ” and “Perspective Taking Test PTT ” were used. It is found that there is a fairly high level of positive correlation between Perspective Taking Test for Children PTC and Empathy Scale for Children ESC scores r=.80, p=.001 . Similarly, it is determined that there is a fairly high level of positive correlation between Perspective Taking Test for Children PTC and Perspective Taking Test PTT scores r=.73, p=.001 . The KR-20 coefficient was calculated for the internal consistency reliability and the value was found as .71. The testretest correlation was determined as .91. Consequently, it was found that the Perspective Taking Test for Children PTC was a valid and reliable instrument for measuring the perspective taking skills of three, four and five-year-old children
