Bu çalışma, yaşlı bireylerin göç ve yerinde yaşlanma bağlamında kentsel dönüşüme ilişkin görüşlerini ortaya koymak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Sanayileşme hareketi ile birlikte artan istihdamın ortaya çıkardığı konut ihtiyacının karşılanamaması kentlere göç eden bireylerin gecekondu tipi meskenler inşa etmelerine neden olmuştur. Son yıllarda artan kentsel dönüşüm uygulamaları, gecekondu bölgelerinde yaşayan bireyleri, özellikle de incinebilir bir grup olarak yaşlı bireyleri sosyal, psikolojik ve ekonomik anlamda etkilemeye başlamıştır. Bu çalışmada, önceki yıllarda yoğun sanayi faaliyetlerinin yapıldığı ve günümüzde büyük bir gecekondu nüfusunun yaşadığı İstanbul ilinin Beykoz ilçesinde bulunan Paşabahçe mahallesindeki yaşlı bireylerin kentsel dönüşüm sürecinden nasıl etkilendiklerinin belirlenmesi ve bu konudaki değerlendirmelerinin ortaya konulması amacıyla yürütülmüştür. Bu çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Yarı yapılandırılmış olarak oluşturulan soru formu Paşabahçe mahallesinde yaşayan 30 yaşlı bireye derinlemesine görüşme yöntemi ile uygulanmış ve veriler elde edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre; yaşlı bireyler çoğu akrabalarından oluşan komşularıyla birlikte, komşuluk ilişkilerinin ve mahalle kültürünün sağlamış olduğu güvenli çevre içinde yaşamak istediklerini ifade etmişlerdir. Yaşlı bireylerin tamamına yakını bahçesi olan bir evde yaşadıklarını ve bahçenin kendileri için vazgeçilmez olduğunu belirterek apartmanda yaşamak istemediklerini açıklamışlardır. Yaşlı bireylerin her ne kadar altyapı, şehir hizmetleri ve planlı bir çevre olmasa da yaşadıkları yeri sevdikleri ve kentsel dönüşüm ile yaşam alanlarının değiştirilmesini istemedikleri belirlenmiştir.
This study was conducted with the aim of revealing the views of elderly individuals on urban transformation in the context of migration and ageing in place. The incapacity to meet the housing needs arising from increasing employment with the industrial movement has led to the people who migrated to the cities to build gecekondu-type houses. In recent years, increasing urban transformation practices have begun to affect the individuals living in the Gecondu regions, especially the elderly individuals as a vulnerable group in a social, psychological and economic sense. In this study, the intense industrial activities were carried out in the previous years and today a large population of Gecondu lives in the district of Beykoz of Istanbul in the Paşabahçe district, with the aim of determining how the elderly individuals are affected by the urban transformation process and their assessments in this regard are revealed. In this study, the method of research was used. The semi-structured question form was applied to 30 elderly individuals living in the Paşabahçe neighborhood through the deep-interview method and data was obtained. According to the research, the elderly individuals, together with their neighbors, most of their relatives, expressed their desire to live in a safe environment that their neighbourhood relationships and neighbourhood culture provide. All the elderly people have explained that they live in a house with a nearby garden and that the garden is unnecessary for themselves, saying they do not want to live in the apartment. Though the elderly individuals do not have infrastructure, urban services, and a planned environment, they are determined to love the place where they live, and they do not want to change their urban transformation and living areas.
This study was conducted to reveal the views of elderly individuals about urban transformation in the context of migration and aging in place. The inability to meet the housing needs caused by the increasing employment with the industrialization movement caused the migrants to the cities to build shanty houses. In recent years, increasing urban regeneration practices have started to affect social, psychological and economic aspects of individuals living in shanty towns, especially elderly individuals as a vulnerable group. In this study, the purpose of this study was to determine how the elderly individuals in the Paşabahçe neighborhood in Beykoz district of Istanbul province, where intensive industrial activities were carried out in the previous years and where there is a large shanty population, are affected by the urban transformation process. Qualitative research method was used in this study. The semi-structured questionnaire was applied to 30 elderly individuals living in Paşabahçe neighborhood by in-depth interview method and the data were obtained. According to the results of the research; The elderly individuals, along with their neighbors, most of whom were relatives, expressed that they wanted to live in a safe environment provided by neighborhood relations and neighborhood culture. Almost all of the elderly individuals stated that they live in a house with a garden and that the garden is indispensable for them and they do not want to live in the apartment. Although elderly people do not have infrastructure, city services and a planned environment, they like their place of residence and do not want to change their living spaces through urban transformation.
