Arşiv belgeleri bir tarihçi için en başta gelen başvuru kaynaklarından olup, geçmişten bakarak günümüze ulaşan birinci elden kaynak ve tanıklardandır. Arşiv belgeleri içerisinde önemli bir yer tutan nüfus defterleri de sosyo-demografik özellikleri ile yaşanan yerin yani bir yerleşimin aydınlatılmasında vazgeçilmez bir özellik sunmaktadır. Yerleşim yerlerinin niceliksel ve niteliksel verilerini günümüze aktaran bu belgelerden olan nüfus defterlerinde Umurlu, Aydın Eyaleti’nin idaresindeki Aydın Sancağı dâhilinde bulunan Güzelhisar-ı Aydın Kazası’na bağlı bir köy durumundadır. Tımar, muhasebe ve avarız sayımları sonrasında, modern anlamda II. Mahmut zamanında yapılan, asker ve vergi kaynaklı olarak müslim ve gayrimüslimlerin kayıtlandığı bu sayım defterlerinden olan ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Cumhurbaşkanlığı Devlet Arşivleri Genel Müdürlüğü Osmanlı Arşivleri Daire Başkanlığı’nda kayıtlı 1841 /1842 yılını içeren ve NFS. d. 03012 kodlu nüfus defterinin 1 ve 27. sayfaları arasında yer alan Umurlu Karyesi ele alınmış ve değerlendirme yoluna gidilmiştir. Defterde yer alan 205 hane reisinin özellikleri ile birlikte yaşları ve akrabalık durumunu içeren nitelikler, askerlik ve benzeri durumlar hakkında da ilk elden bilgi sahibi olunarak bir yerleşim yerinin tarihi geçmişini ile ilgili olarak önemli ayrıntılara ulaşmaya çalıştık.
The archive documents are the primary source of application for a historian and are the first-hand sources and witnesses that come from the past to the present. Population records, which hold an important place in the archive documents, also offer an indispensable feature in the enlightenment of the place in which they live with their socio-demographic characteristics, a settlement. In the population records of these documents that transmit the quantitative and qualitative data of the settlements to the present day, Umurlu is in the state of a village linked to the Good Hitsar-i Aydin Accident, located within the Aydin Sanca in the administration of the Aydin State. With the characteristics of the 205 households listed in the book, we tried to get important details regarding the historical history of a settlement by getting first-hand information about the qualities, military and similar situations that include their age and relative status.
Archive records are among the most important sources of reference for historians, besides being among the primary sources on the way of understanding history. Population registers, which occupy an important place within the archives, provide an indispensable feature in illuminating the place where they live with their socio-demographic characteristics. From these documents, which convey the quantitive and qualitative data of the settlements to our present day, Umurlu, in the population registers, is seen as a village connected to Güzelhisar-Aydın province which was located in the sanjak of Aydın. This document which is registered in the Ottoman Archives of Turkish Republic with a year 1841/1842, and with a code NFS. d. 030212. In this document Umurlu can be found between the 1st and the 27th pages. In this study, the demographic structure of Umurlu, will try to be analyzed by following the data that is provided by the document which is mentioned above.
