The First National Conference for the History of Turkish Pharmacy was held on 11 May 1990 in Istanbul under the guidance of the late Professor Turhan Baytop (1920-2002). A total of 14 communications were presented at this meeting, which was also attended by some 70 French historians of pharmacy. This event was followed by biannual conferences held in different cities of Turkey: Ankara (6-7 May 1994), Eskişehir (3-4 June 1996), Istanbul (4-5 June 1998), Izmir (25-26 May 2000), Istanbul (5-7 June 2002), Ankara (27-28 May 2005), Istanbul (29-30 May 2008), Eskişehir (24-26 May 2010) and Istanbul (6-8 June 2012), respectively. Abstracts and proceedings of the communications presented at these conferences constitute the material of this study, which aims to statistically evaluate the topics addressed. Our findings indicate that over the course of 10 conferences, a total of 289 communications were presented by 122 researchers, 5 of whom were foreigners. The proceedings of conferences were not published regularly; only 121 of the oral and poster presentations appeared as full articles in print. The subjects of these presentations included biographies of pharmacists or important figures in the field of pharmacy (total 37 communications, 13%), folkloric medicine, history of medicinal plants and flora research (32 communications, 11%), historical pharmacies (21 communications, 7%), history of pharmacy education (18 communications, 6%), medicine and pharmacy history museums (17 communications, 6%), and miscellaneous topics.
