Seyyid Yahyâ Vâkıf, İstanbul’da doğmuştur. Alim, şair ve hattat bir ailenin mensubudur. Baba tarafından seyyid olan Vâkıf’ın pederi Abdürrahim Fâiz Efendi (ö. 1726) ve anne tarafından dedesi Abdülbâkî Ârif Efendi (ö. 1713-14)’dir. Dedesi, babası, kardeşi Mehmed Şeref Efendi ve kendisi hem şair hem hattattır. Riyâzü’ş-Şu‘arâ’nın bir nüshası, talik yazıda üstat olan Vâkıf tarafından istinsah edilmiştir. Müderrislik, Kahire nakibüleşraflığı, Halep kadılığı, askerî kassamlık yapan şair 15 Ramazan 1150/ 2 Ocak 1738’de İstanbul’da vefat etmiş, Eyüp Mezarlığı’na dedesinin yakınında bir mevkiye defnedilmiştir. Vâkıf’ın Dîvân’ından başka bir eseri bilinmemektedir. Onun kaside nazım şekliyle yazdığı Halep Menzil-nâmesi Dîvân’ına da dâhil edilebilir. Mürettep olduğu bildirilen Dîvân’ı elimizde değildir. Yapı Kredi Sermet Çifter Araştırma Kütüphanesi Y-619 numaralı mecmua içinde Vâkıf’a ait 28 gazel ve 1 beyit yer almaktadır. Tezkireler, biyografi kitapları ve sanat tarihi çalışmalarında rastlananlarla birlikte bu çalışmadaki şiirler 32 gazel, 1 tarih kıtası ve 2 beyit olmak üzere 35’e ulaşmaktadır. Bu şiirler içinde yer alan 3 gazel, ya Seyyid Vehbî’ye nazire olarak yazılmıştır yahut Vehbî’nin naziresine zemin teşkil etmiştir. Ayrıca Kabataş Hekimoğlu Ali Paşa Meydan Çeşmesi’ndeki kitabelerden birinde Seyyid Vehbî’nin kıtası yazılı iken öteki kitabedeki kıtayı kimi kaynaklar Bursalı müderris Vâkıf Mahmûd Efendi’ye isnat etmişlerdir. Ancak şiir Seyyid Yahyâ Vâkıf’a aittir. Vâkıf’ın şairliği için kaynaklarda verilen bilgiler, onun iyi bir şair olduğunun zikredilmesinden ibarettir.
Seyyid Yahya Vâkıf was born in Istanbul. A poet, a poet and a family member. Three poems in these poems are either written to Seyyid Vehbî as Nazire or made the ground to the Nazire of Vehbî. Therefore, in one of the books in the Kabbalah Hekimoğlu Ali Pasha Square Fountain, the continent of Seyyid Vehbî is written, while in the other book some sources have insisted on the Bursali Mederris Vâkıf Mahmûd Efendi. The poem is the poem of Yahweh. The knowledge given in the sources for the poetry of Vâkûf is only the mention that he is a good poet.
