Salgın hastalıklar geçmişten günümüze insan ve toplum hayatında derin izler bırakmıştır. Tarihte büyük ölümlere sebep olan salgın hastalıklar günümüzde de etkisini sürdürmektedir. Bu makalede, Demokrat Parti döneminde yaygın olarak görülen ve insan hayatını tehdit eden sıtma ve verem salgın hastalıkları ve onlara karşı verilen mücadele ele alınmıştır. Sıtma ve verem hastalıklarının tarihsel süreci irdelenmiş, cumhuriyetin ilk yıllarında bu hastalıklara karşı verilen mücadelenin önemine değinilmiş ve Demokrat Parti döneminde bu salgınları bertaraf etmek için izlenen politikalar incelenmiştir. Bu dönemde sıtma ve verem salgınları ile etkin bir şekilde mücadele etmek için ihtiyaç duyulan sağlık alt yapısına, sağlık insan gücüne ve uluslararası yardımlara ilişkin izlenen politikalar ve gelişmeler ele alınmıştır. Tüm salgın hastalıklarda olduğu gibi sıtma ve veremle de mücadele etmek için millet ve devlet el ele vermiş, tüm imkanlar seferber edilmiştir. Bu makalenin ana amacını Demokrat Parti döneminde sıtma ve verem salgın hastalıklarına karşı verilen mücadeleyi gözler önüne serip, günümüze ve geleceğe bir ışık tutabilmektir.
Infectious diseases have caused deep pain in human and social life from the past to the present. Infectious diseases that caused great deaths in history continue to affect us today. In this article, malaria and tuberculosis are contagious diseases that were common during the Democrat Party period, and the fight against them has been examined. The historical process of malaria and tuberculosis diseases was scrutinized, the importance of the fight against these diseases in the early years of the republic was mentioned, and the policies followed to eliminate these epidemics during the Democrat Party period were examined. During this period, the policies and developments regarding the health infrastructure, health manpower, and international aid needed to effectively fight malaria and tuberculosis outbreaks have been discussed. As in all infectious diseases, the people and the state supported each other, and all opportunities were mobilized to fight malaria and tuberculosis. The main purpose of this article is to reveal the struggle against malaria and tuberculosis infectious diseases during the Democrat Party period and to shed light on the present and the future.
