Abstract:

The study group of  the research consists of 25 B1 level students who are studying at the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Allameh Tabataba'i University in Iran. In this study, it was aimed to contribute to the field in theory and practice by adapting the authentic literary texts selected from Turkish literature to B1 level in order to meet the reading skill needs of foreign students who learn Turkish for the B1 level reading skill in accordance with the language proficiency of the Common European Framework Of Reference for languages. In the study, adapted authentic texts were selected from Turkish literature in line with the opinions of instructors and academic experts. In the study, B1 level students were taken in two groups and  Reading Comprehension Inventory consisting of texts adapted to first Group (U) and authentic texts to  second group (Ö) was applied.  The first group (U) consisted of 13 participants, and the second group (Ö) consisted of 12 participants. In this study, document analysis technique of the descriptive research model was used. Both authentic and adapted forms of the texts were taken as basis, and exams were conducted simultaneously on both groups by usind original question examples. By examining the data obtained here, the reading comprehension levels and effects of the adapted and authentic texts between the two groups are tried to be determined ;it was examined in terms of gender and texts types variables. The answers given by the students to Reading Comprehension Inventory and the data obtained were examined with the Mann Whitney-U Test. A statistics program was used for these examinations. The data obtained from the administration and the questions made up of texts adapted in line with the results were found to the more easily solved and successful by students at B1 level; thus, it was determined that they found the adapted texts better and more understandable; it has been determined that adapted texts increase students' motivation to learn.
