Abstract:

The purpose of the current study was to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool to measure the unconditional acceptance tendency of counselors. To this end, the process was completed in four stages: creating an item pool, receiving expert opinions, administration of the draft scale, and conducting validity and reliability studies of the collected data. The study group of the study was comprised of 622 counselors living in different regions of Turkey, and analyses were made on the data collected from 613 counselors after removing the outliers. The construct validity of the scale was examined by conducting exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, and it was seen that the resulting single-factor construct explained 49.29% of the total variance. With the confirmatory factor analysis, the model fit of the single factor construct was found to be good (χ2/sd= 2.18, RMSEA=.074, RMR=.050, SRMR=.049, GFI=.93, AGFI=.90, CFI=.97, IFI =.97, RFI=.93, NFI=.95, NNFI=.96). In order to establish the reliability of the scale, the internal consistency, split-half, and test-retest reliability analysis methods were used. As a result of the analysis, the Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient was found to be .88, the Spearman-Brown split-half reliability was found to be .87 and the test-retest reliability was found to be .87. When the results of the study were evaluated holistically, it was revealed that the Counsellor Unconditional Acceptance Tendency Scale is a psychometrically valid and reliable measurement tool.
