Abstract:

Hospitals are faced with serious risks caused by the work environment, and sometimes they are damaged. With the work health and safety (ISG) practices, these damages can be completely prevented or reduced. Because hospitals are in a very dangerous group in terms of ISG, it is necessary to pay more attention to the work in this area and to develop its organizational structure in this direction. In this study a public hospital is aimed at evaluating the ISG practices based on the perception and awareness of employees. The research is designed as “identificative”. In obtaining data, the survey form prepared by the researcher was used by scanning scientific sources and taking the expert opinion. The survey of ISG applications, applied to the researchers, consists of a total of 62 questions and 11 sub-dimensions. The scope of the study is made up of 201-bed public hospital employees associated with the Ministry of Health in Istanbul. The study was conducted with 541 hospital employees in the period April 2017–June 2017. In the assessment of the data, the identificative statistical methods (medium, standard sapma, median, frequency, ratio, minimum, maximum) as well as quantitative data were compared using Kruskall Wallis and Mann Whitney-U Analysis. Based on the perception and awareness of the staff of the hospital, according to the results from the work we do; as the level of education of the staff in general ISG practices increases, the results have been obtained in the direction of increasing the state of awareness. The level of education has been high in the awareness of the staff who are graduate and graduate, the educational status of the primary and high school. As the time of work in the institution and in the profession increases, the state of awareness has also been determined to increase positively. The state of awareness of employees in the health class in general ISG practices was higher than other occupational groups. According to the units in the hospital, the state of awareness of the general ISG practices of the security unit employees were found higher than the awareness of all units. As a result, an increase in employees’ positive perception and awareness of general ISG practices can be achieved by the employee, employer and government’s obligations. The high awareness of employees is more important than the prevention of work accidents. With the prevention of work accidents, the person, the workplace and indirectly the family and the country’s economy will be protected from damage, losses and damages.
