Abstract:

Purpose: Readability is the measurement of the degree of difficulty reading of a text using various mathematical formulas. The purpose of this study is to reveal the levels of readability of the patient information texts related to the headline presented on the internet environment. Tool and Method: Google search engine and the search result using the keywords "Return" the first 100 web sites that came out in the search result was reviewed. The information text was copied and the number of words, words, sentences, and more than four sentences in the text was calculated. The values of readability were calculated using the Fireman and Chetinkaya formulas. The evaluated sites were grouped according to the source (personal information site / hospital site / newspaper / company) and according to the author (KBB physician / KBB physician not / academic title has / does not). Results: The texts on all the sites included in the study were found as "readable easily" (ortanca = 74.5; min-max = 54.0-87.9) according to the Fireman score. According to the Chetinkaya score, it can be read at "educational level" (medium±SS=72.3±11.6) and 8-9. It was a level that people who had been trained to the class could understand. Compared to the 100 site sources and authors included in the study, there was no difference in reading scores and levels. The result: in terms of health literature, it is a positive situation that the sources related to the "head-to-head" are "readable easily" when the average level of education in our country is also taken into account. The similar level of readability of medical or hospital-based sites compared to other sites can make it easier for patients to access accurate and high-quality information.
