Abstract:

Communication, workload management, teamwork which are considered as the human factors (non-technical skills) in the frame of Crew Resource Management (CRM) constitute one of the most important factors in ensuring flight safety in the field of civil aviation. Considering that the human factors (non-technical skills) are also crucial as well as the technical and technological factors in ensuring flight safety, this research basically focuses on the human factors in the context of flight safety. For this reason, it is aimed to determine the relationships between the non-technical skills of the cabin crew members and their tendency to make rational decisions. Additionally, the subgoal of this research is to determine whether there is a statistically significant difference between the demographic and occupational characteristics in terms of the variables considered. Within these objectives, data was collected from 387 cabin crew members through a survey method based on quantitative research, and the data was analyzed using the SPSS 24 statistical package program. The findings have shown that the human factors such as communication-interaction, leadership, workload management, teamwork, and error identification are linearly related to rational decision-making in terms of flight safety. The findings obtained from the analyses showed that communication-interaction, leadership, workload management, team work, and error identification are linearly related to rational decision making in terms of flight safety. Team work and leadership skills are most closely associated with rational decision-making. The results have indicated that the human skills are important in terms of flight safety.
