Abstract:

Over the years, a large number of children’s literature books have been published on the subject of being a refugee both in Turkey and in the world. It particularly stems from the tremendous increase in major disasters such as ‘war’ around the world. Therefore, I aimed to specify how the concept of ‘war’ is reflected in the children’s literature books. I extendedly investigated the identity construction on being a refugee in the children’s literature books written on the main theme of refuge. Besides, I analyzed how authors handle the issue of seeking refuge in children’s literature books. I designed this research study using document analysis technique as the methodology, and conducted the data analysis process using descriptive coding scheme. As a result of the research, it has been seen that the representment of refugee identity is a significant contribution to the nature and purpose of the work, with an approach that does not exploit the reader's feelings, but is realistic to empathize but takes into account the child's reality. In addition, the work has reached a certain turning point in the process of refugee issue. This cycle; the loss of a child who is the protagonist of the work, the discovery of a new place, and the happy end.
