1950 Genel Seçimleri, Türk siyasi tarihi açısından büyük önem arz etmektedir. Çünkü bu seçimler ile birlikte Türkiye’de ilk kez iktidar halk iradesiyle değişmiştir. Cumhuriyet’in ilanından sonra 27 yıl boyunca iktidarı elinde tutan Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi, bu seçimlerde aldığı yenilginden sonra muhalefete geçmiştir. Bu seçimler Demokrat Parti’ye büyük bir güç katarken, CHP safında ise büyük bir prestij kaybına neden olmuştur. Bu çalışmada değişen iktidara ulusal basının bakış açısının nasıl olduğunun üzerinde durulacak ve ilerleyen yıllarda DP iktidarına nasıl yaklaştığı irdelenecektir. DP’nin, 1950 genel seçimlerinde iktidara gelişi ulusal basın tarafından genellikle olumlu karşılanmıştır. II. Dünya Savaşı’nın getirdiği mali sıkıntıların savaş sonrasında da etkisini sürdürmesi ve bununla birlikte çok partili hayata kesin olarak geçiş ile halk CHP’den desteğini çekmeye başlamıştı. Cumhuriyet tarihinde yaşanan bu ilk iktidar değişimi, yeni iktidardan beklentileri de beraberinde getirmiştir. Basın yeni iktidardan başta iktisadi olmak üzere, siyasi, sosyal gibi birçok konuda beklentilere girmiştir.
The 1950 General Elections are of great importance in terms of Turkish political history. Because; for the first time in Turkey, with these elections, power has changed with popular will. After the declaration of the republic, the Republican People's Party, holding power for 27 years, passed the opposition after the defeat in these elections. While these elections added a lot of power to the Democrat Party, it caused a great loss of prestige in the CHP. In this study; the changing power will focus on how the viewpoint of the national press is and how it will approach DP government in the coming years. The DP came to power in the 1950 general elections, which was generally welcomed by the national press. The financial difficulties brought by the World War II continued its influence in the aftermath of the war, and together with the passage of multi-party life, the people started to take support from CHP. This first change of power in the history of the Republic brought with it new expectations from the ruling power. The press has entered into many new issues, from economics to politics to social.
