Abstract:

The urban areas are in a constant socio-economic change. The process of change results in the expansion of urban areas and the increase in the population. The rapid and uncontrolled urbanization process brings many problems with it. Technology to overcome the social, economic and environmental problems emerging in the urban world is one of the tools used to create living urban areas. Cities where information communication technologies are used for the purpose of improving sustainability and quality of life are called smart cities. In smart cities, it is not only about strengthening the technology infrastructure. The process of planning and management also takes into account the human, economic, environmental, management, life and mobility components. The smart city applications include the leading cities (Lighthouse Cities) that are widely using advanced technologies in different fields and the follow-up cities (Follower Cities) in the effort to spread their applications. One of the approaches that can be developed from the point of view of the follow-up cities is the study of examples of good practice in the leading cities. The aim of the study in this scope is to make outcomes for the followers of the cities by moving from the examples of good practice of the smart cities made in the leading cities. The examples of the study are Stockholm and the city of Bursa. In the study of the applications, a quality approach was used. Smart city applications in cities are studied through smart city strategies, implementations and management plans; Internet resources and academic publications. The study concluded that Stockholm could be an example in the city of Bursa, which is the leading city, and recommendations for smart city practices for the city of Bursa were developed.
