Abstract:

Currently, states produce policies for citizens within the borders of the country, as well as for descendants residing abroad for various reasons. The purpose of the activities, which have become more important with developments in the field of globalization and technology, is to influence and coordinate the diaspora. The practices of government agencies and private companies are decisive in the politics of the diaspora. In fact, in that study, the role of the press, which is supposed to have an impact on diaspora policies, was emphasized. The sample of the selected Balkan Gunlugu newspaper was reviewed in three issues between 01.02.2021 and 28.02.2021. The objective of the study is to determine the effect of publishing on the Turkish diaspora in the Balkans. Research examining Turkey’s communication with its descendants in the Balkans through a newspaper is significant in this regard. In the research where the content analysis methodology is used, the news has been analysed across three different categories of analysis. As a result of the study, it was seen that the newspaper focuses on basic ideas such as Turkishness and Islam, along with cultural and historical developments in order to influence diasporas. The newspaper reportedly acted as a bridge between the Turkish diaspora in the Balkans and Turkey. On the other hand, it has also been determined that the newspaper does not carry out any planned publishing activities for diasporas.
