Bu çalışmada amaç, asgari ücret ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Bu bağlamda, reel asgari ücret ve ekonomik büyüme değişkenleri 1983-2014 dönemi dikkate alınarak Türkiye için incelenmiştir. TY-VAR nedensellik testinin kullanıldığı çalışmada, ekonomik büyüme oranlarından asgari ücrete doğru istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ve pozitif tek yönlü bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Böylelikle ekonomik büyümede meydana gelen artışların, asgari ücrete pozitif yansıdığı söylenebilir. Ancak asgari ücretlerdeki artış, ekonomik büyümeye yansımamaktadır. Bu durum, asgari ücretlilerin artan gelirleriyle ihtiyaçlarını karşılayamadığını göstermektedir. Her ne kadar bireylerin reel ücretlerinde artış yaşansa da, bu durumun tüketim harcamalarına yansımadığı söylenebilir.
The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between minimum wages and economic growth. In this context, the actual minimum wage and economic growth variables were studied for Turkey taking into account the period 1983-2014. The study using the TY-VAR causality test found a statistically meaningful and positive one-way relationship from economic growth rates to minimum wages. The growth of the economy can be said to be positive to the minimum wage. However, the increase in minimum wages does not reflect economic growth. This indicates that the minimum wages are unable to meet their needs with increased income. Although individuals experience an increase in real wages, it can be said that this situation does not reflect on consumption spending.
