Abstract:

Children's literature is a field that covers verbal and written works that help children learn while entertaining, addressing their fantasy worlds. Children can connect between the work they read and the real life through the heroes of the works discussed in children's literature, so they can solve problems in everyday life more comfortably. The childhood period, which is the target audience of child literature, is a very important and critical process in the individual’s life. In the process that continues with the learning of reading and writing, the responsibilities of the child are increasing, and the foundation of many skills and knowledge is also put in this period. One of these knowledge and skills is mathematical education. It is known that mathematics is one of the most difficult lessons for children in our country. The association of mathematical teaching only with mathematical courses causes this course to not be integrated with other fields. The aim of this study is to provide an example of how mathematics education can be taught with children’s literature works. The study used document analysis, Vladimir Tumanov's work "Rescue the Queen" was chosen as a sample. When the data obtained in the work examined and from the studies related to the subject were analyzed, it was possible to teach mathematics with children's literature works, the works prepared for this purpose could overcome the mathematical concerns of students. It can also be stated that children can love math lessons with the teaching methods and techniques applied in painted works for themselves and that they can therefore succeed in math lessons.
