Abstract:

This research was carried out with the aim of studying the general field knowledge in the context of the "Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching" model on the concepts of universal and infinite group of mathematics teachers. The work group of the research conducted by the model of state study of the quality research methods consists of 18 math teachers. As a data collection tool, the prepared section for the general field knowledge component of the "Group Information Test for Teaching" and the "Teaching Observation Form" were used. The research data was obtained through semi-configured conversations, audio and video recording and observation and written documents. In the analysis of these quality data obtained, the visual analysis, content analysis and continuous comparison techniques have been used with data analysis methods dedicated to each data collection tool. Research findings have shown that teachers generally write erroneous or missing definitions about the concepts of universal and infinite group. However, it has also been found that teachers experience conceptual errors regarding these concepts and that their knowledge is on a superficial level.
