Abstract:

Mehmet Akif has aimed to convey reality as it is in almost all of his verse stories. He even accepts that "his word is like wood" in order not to deviate from reality. He takes care not to deviate from the reality seen in both event or situation narrations and character drawings, and not to distort the reality. In this sense, XIX. "Reflecting", which was applied to the work by realist novelists in the 19th century, can be seen as the key to Mehmet Akif's poetry technique. Like the realist novelists, Akif holds a mirror to life and tries to convey what is reflected in the mirror in his verse stories without embellishing, spoiling or changing. The event-situation-person-space overlap is in integrity in his poems in the context of reflectivity. Poems such as “Blind Neyzen, Seyfi Baba, Tavern, Berlin Memories, Sick, Neighborhood Coffee, Straw” stand out among the poems that the poet penned with a reflective approach. In these, Mehmet Akif reveals the emotion and/or thought he wants to convey with reflective technique. In Akif's reflectivity, it is essential to convey the truth naked. This style constitutes the axis in conveying a situation that the poet deems worth telling, an event that he witnessed or personally experienced. It records the truthful not only in the narration of the event but also in the choice of words, and in this way, it leans on realism in style. The fact that he uses verbs that convey a lot of mobility, and that he makes people speak according to their own cultural level, like a naturalist writer while applying to dialogues, are indicators of his loyalty to the truth in the language.
