The multi-factor ethyopathogenesis of periodontal diseases requires the study of the residence sensitivity affected by systemic and environmental factors. Obesity is a chronic multi-factor disease that causes fat accumulation to a extent that will deteriorate the health in the body. The obese tissue is now considered an organ with parakrine, otocrine and endocrine properties. The existence of common biological mechanisms that obesity and periodontal diseases are likely to affect each other in the inflammatory process has led to the claim that obesity can be a risk determiner for the progress of periodontal disease. In addition to similar pathophysical responses from obesity-periodontitis, subclinical chronic inflammatory condition caused by proinflammatory cytokines dispersed from the adipose tissue and systemic general stress suggests that two diseases can interact with each other. The systemic and chronic inflammatory effects of obesity on healthy and sick periodontal tissues are still contradictory. Under the light of the current literature, the purpose of this collection is to provide information about the effects of obesity and indirectly created oxidative stress on periodontal disease pathogenesis.
