Abstract:

The aim of this study is to identify the tendencies of young people at high school level towards the practice of traditional Turkish sports. The study was conducted on 625 young people (14-19 years old) in the province of Gaziantep in high school age. The data collection was obtained by the researchers’ personal information and the survey containing structured questions aimed at determining their views on traditional Turkish sports. In the analysis of the data, the frequency and percentage analysis were used. When the results are studied, the young people are seen as the sports that they want to do and attract their interest as the scratch sports and horse shooting branches. The young people who are known and wanted to deal with the branche are seen as an abbey. The study found that young people did not have sufficient knowledge and tendencies about traditional Turkish sports. We believe that young people’s interest and tendencies in traditional sports are at a low level, and with the various practices to be done, the provision of their interest and knowledge will eliminate a significant lack in the transmission of these sports to future generations.
