Abstract:

This study aims to examine the relationship between academic achievement and nomophobia levels of of sport sciences students . The population, which constitutes the scope of the study, consists of 640 students studying at Süleyman Demirel University, Faculty of Sport Sciences, and the sample group consists of 167 students selected randomly. The volunteers who participated in the study were asked to answer the nomophobia scale in the literature as well as personal information form and general academic grade point averages. Computer-based statistical analyses were performed using IBM SPSS 22.0 program. Pearson ® correlation analysis was applied to evaluate the relationship between the two scales. As a result, academic achievement and mobile phone addiction (nomophobia) levels of sport sciences students are above average. In addition, when the relationship between academic achievement and nomophobia scale sub-dimensions was examined, it was seen that the sub-dimensions of sacrificing comfort and losing online connection decreased as the academic achievement of the students increased. However, no significant relationship was found between the sub-dimensions of inability to access information and inability to communicate and academic achievement. Our findings suggest that sport sciences students in general show a high level of nomophobic tendency. These results may shed light on future research and the development of educational strategies.
