Araştırma, Türkiye’deki yaşlı bireylerin BM Yaşlılık İlkeleri kapsamındaki görüşlerini öğrenmeyi ve bu konudaki ileriye dönük çözümlerin ortaya konulmasını problem edinmiştir. Ülkemizde artan yaşlı nüfusu, yaşlılara sunulan hizmetlerin evrensel standartlarda sorgulanma ihtiyacını doğurmuş ve bu araştırmanın amacını oluşturmuştur. Bu araştırmanın genel amacı, yaşlılara sunulan hizmetlerin BM Yaşlılık İlkeleri çerçevesinde yaşlıların gözünden değerlendirmektir. Çalışma Ankara ilinin Çankaya ilçesinde ikamet eden 60 yaş ve üstü 102 yaşlı katılımcı ile birlikte gerçekleştirilmiştir. Yapılan araştırmada yaşlı bireylerin sahip oldukları haklarla ilgili yeterli düzeyde bilgiye sahip olmadıkları görülmüştür. Yaşlılara verilen hizmetler ise Birleşmiş Milletler Yaşlılık İlkeleri’nden hareketle yeterli düzeyde değildir. Yaşlı bireylerin temel ihtiyaçlarını karşılamaya yönelik çalışmalar arttırılmalıdır. Kendi ihtiyaç ve isteklerine yönelik mevcut düzenlerinde saygın bir şekilde yaşamaları desteklenmelidir. Yaşlı bireylerin, kendilerini gerçekleştirebilmeleri ve kendilerini ilgilendiren konularda katılımlarının sağlanabilmesi için onlara fırsatlar sunulmalı ve sahip oldukları haklar ile ilgili bilinçlenmeleri sağlanmalıdır. Benzer bir araştırmanın derinlemesine bilgi elde etmek amacı ile nitel araştırma yöntemi ile de gerçekleştirilmesi önerilmektedir.
The research has made it difficult to learn the views of elderly individuals in Turkey within the framework of the United Nations Elderly Principles and to find forward-looking solutions on this issue. The growing population in our country has raised the need to question the services offered to the elderly at the universal standards and has set the objective of this research. The general purpose of this study is to evaluate the services offered to elderly in the framework of the United Nations Elderly Principles by the eyes of elderly. The study was conducted together with 60 years old and over 102 participants living in the province of Ankara in the province of Çankaya. The study found that elderly individuals did not have sufficient knowledge about the rights they have. The benefits for the elderly are not sufficient in accordance with the United Nations Elderly Principles. Working to meet the basic needs of elderly individuals should be increased. They should be supported to live respectfully in their existing arrangements for their own needs and desires. It should be provided opportunities for elderly individuals to be able to realize themselves and to be able to participate in matters of their interest and to be awareness of the rights they have. A similar research is recommended to be conducted with a quality research method in order to obtain profound information.

The study was carried out with 102 seniors aged 60 and over who were living in Çankaya, Ankara. In the research, it was observed that elderly individuals do not have sufficient information about the rights they have. The services provided to the elderly are not sufficient based on the United Nations Aging Principles. Studies with regard to meeting the basic needs of elderly individuals should be increased. They should be encouraged to live respectably in the current order of their own needs and wishes. Opportunities should be provided for older individuals to realize themselves and to participate in matters that concern them and their awareness should be raised about their rights. It is recommended that similar research should be carried out with the qualitative research method in order to obtain in-depth information.
