Abstract:

The aim of this study is to study the relationship of social media addiction levels of university students with identity functions and their impact on identity functions. The study group consists of a total of 405 university students, including 226 (55.8%) women and 179 (44.2%) men, who studied in the province of Istanbul in 2021-2022. As a data collection tool, social media dependency scale, identity functions scale and personal information forms have been used. The SPSS 22 program is used for the processing of data. In this study, a correlational model was used. In the analysis of the data, the study used Pearson Moment Relationship Scores and Simple Real Regression Analysis. According to the results of the research, social media addiction identifiable functions have been significantly linked to the size of the structure size, conformity size, target size, future size and control size) in the negative direction. Social media addiction has also found that identity functions (building, conformity, purpose, future, control) are negative and meaningful. The examples of this study are limited to students studying at universities in Istanbul. Data can be obtained in depth through qualitative methods such as the interview method.
