Abstract:

Factors such as industrialization, urbanization, progress in science and technology result in a decrease in birth rates and an increase in life expectancy in births. As a natural result, the world’s population is increasingly aging and the ageing proportion of the total population is increasing. These changes in the demographic structure require global solutions to be produced and policies to be developed in order to ensure that the increasing life is lived in a way that is adequate to human dignity. This situation has led to many organizations on a national and international scale. In these meetings, the fact of aging has been discussed in a multi-dimensional manner and various decisions have been made to improve the well-being of elderly individuals. In this context, the World Health Organization (WHO) published the Active Ageing Policy Framework in 2002 to support developing countries and strengthen policies in the field of health and social in the ageing world. However, the Age Friendly Cities project, which aims to actively and healthy aging, has been implemented because the effective and complete participation of all individuals in the society and the physical and social environment cannot be organized without any arrangement. This study aims to evaluate age-friendly cities in the context of active aging. In this context, it was first addressed the issues of ageing population and urbanization. The age-friendly city concept was later explained and in the world and in Turkey age-friendly city practices were evaluated in the context of active aging and found outcomes.
