Abstract:

From the past to the present, epidemic diseases have been a problem for mankind. World history has been faced with various epidemics. In view of the major epidemics that changed the course of human history, this process began with Jüstinyen Veba, the Black Death, then Flower Virus, Cholera, H1N1, H3N2, AIDS, SARS, Swine Flu, Ebola, MERS and finally the Covid-19 that the whole world faces. The most devastating effects of infectious diseases were undoubtedly on the elderly section. In this sense, this study aims to reveal how epidemic diseases affect the elderly. This study will discuss what kind of effects epidemic diseases have on the elderly. The risk of disease caused by the infection, loneliness, lack of access to social isolation and services, lack of physical activity, difficulties experienced by the elderly with comorbidity, age-based discrimination and risk of marking, death, suicide and vaccination will be examined under the headlines of epidemic diseases and age relationship and discussions will be conducted in this framework. This study is believed to be a significant contribution to the literature of health sociology in the sense of referring to the relationship between health, disease and aging.
