Abstract:

The Turkish tribes, who established great states in history, spread over wide geographies and left countless works behind. These artifacts are mostly archaeological remains, which are the basic elements of our material cultural heritage, and among these remains, especially kurgans have a great importance. Kurgans, as tangible assets, provide very valuable information on many subjects such as Turkish culture, belief, social structure, economic life, and also provide us with an idea about Turkish architectural structure and housing understanding. Kurgans are the residence of a deceased person in Turkish culture, where he will spend his eternal life, it is the place where a deceased person's journey to the other world begins and the final farewell is made. Therefore, they have a certain importance and there are also various types and types. One of them is the tombs made in memory of a person, which we can describe as mausoleums or monumental kurgans. In Turkish culture, the journeys of people whose corpses could not be reached for various reasons or whose corpses were left in distant lands, were carried out through these monumental kurgans. They are no different from other types of kurgans in terms of structure and application, except that there is no corpse of the human being made in memory of them. In this study, these structures and application practices will be discussed and tried to be explained with examples.
