Geçmişten günümüze eğitimde en fazla kullanılan materyaller ders kitaplarıdır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin ilanından günümüze kadar olan süreçte şimdiki adı ile sosyal bilgiler dersi kapsamındaki ders kitaplarında yer alan afet ve afet eğitimi kavramlarını incelemektir. Nitel araştırma yönteminde tasarlanan çalışmada doküman analizi yöntemine başvurulmuş ve elde edilen veriler içerik analizi yöntemiyle çözümlenmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında 60 ders kitabı incelenmiş bu ders kitapları arasından 22 ders kitabında afet konularına rastlanmış ve bu 22 adet kitap çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Oluşturulan veri setine göre ders kitapları kavram olarak afet, eğitimsel açıdan afet ve görsel sunuş açısından afet ve afet eğitimiyle ilgili bulgular ortaya konulmuştur. Çalışma sonucunda 1999 yılından 2012 yılına kadar olan süreçte afet türlerinin ders kitaplarında değinilmesinde bir eksilme görülmüş, 2012 yılından 2020 yılına kadar olan süreçte çeşitli afet türlerine değinilmiştir. Afet görselleri analiz edildiğinde ise 1999 yılından itibaren ise haritalar, gazete haberleri ve karikatürlere ders kitaplarında yer verilmeye başlandığı görülmüştür. Ancak çeşitli afetlere yönelik görseller öğrenciye sunulmadığından dolayı incelenen kitaplarda görsel bakımından eksikliklerin olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Genel olarak çalışmanın sonucunda afet ve afet eğitimi konusunda eğitim-öğretimin en önemli aracı olan ders kitaplarında nitelik bakımından eksiklikler olduğu saptanmıştır.
Textbooks are the most used materials in education from past to present. The aim of this study is to examine the concepts of disaster and disaster education, which are included in the textbooks within the scope of the social studies course as presently called, from the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey until today. The document analysis method was applied in the study which was designed in the qualitative research method and the obtained data was analyzed with the content analysis method. Within the scope of the study, 60 textbooks were examined and 22 textbooks among them were included in the study as they were found to have disaster topics. According to the data set created, findings in the textbooks related to disaster as a concept, disaster in educational terms, disaster and disaster education in terms of visual presentation were revealed. As a result of the study, it was found that there was a decrease in the mention of disaster types in textbooks in the period from 1999 to 2012, and various types of disasters were mentioned in the process from 2012 to 2020. When disaster visuals were analyzed, it was seen that maps, newspaper news and cartoons started to be included in textbooks since 1999. However, since the visuals for various disasters were not presented to students, it was concluded that there was a lack of visual content in the books examined. In general, it was concluded as a result of the study that there are quality deficiencies in the textbooks, which are the most important tools of education and training on disaster.
