Abstract:

Perfectionism is defined as the obligation to succeed in every work done and to feel bad when it is not approved by others. It can also lead to the appearance of perfectionist individuals in social media that only strive to obtain the approval of other people and set high standards for themselves. The aim of this research is to study the relationship between high school students’ excellence characteristics and social media use attitudes. The study’s sample consists of 589 students studying in 9th, 10th, 11th classes in 4 high school institutions located in Istanbul or Şişli district. In the collection of data, the personal information form, the positive-negative excellence scale and the social media attitude scale were used. To analyze data from the study group, the SPSS 25 program was used. After the analysis, the conclusion was that there was a meaningful relationship between the dependent variable and the positive and the negative perfectionism. The analysis found that there was a significant difference between the average that girls students had more positive attitudes towards social media than boys. Furthermore, the research resulted in meaningful results between some information obtained from the participant’s personal information form and the attitudes of social media use.
